A beautiful forest trail located near Lough Gill, just a short drive from Sligo town. The walk is around 4 km long and forms a loop through peaceful woodland, with great views of the lake and mountains. It’s well-marked, easy to follow, and takes about an hour to complete. Part of the route includes a wooden boardwalk that stretches over marshy ground with stunning lake views—really adds something special to the walk.

There’s free parking available at the trail entrance, with picnic benches nearby. The trail is generally easy, but parts can be slippery after rain, so good walking shoes are recommended. It’s dog-friendly too (keep them on a lead).

The forest is rich in birdlife and has some very old oak trees. If you go early in the morning or near sunset, it’s incredibly peaceful. You can also extend your walk further along the Sligo Way if you want a longer route.

Overall, a lovely spot for a relaxing nature walk—quiet, scenic, and full of charm. Great for locals and...

It's a really lovely area to go for a walk. The scenery is beautiful, especially along the shore of Lough Gill. Unfortunately, there were countless amounts of trees uprooted and knocked over with the recent storms. However, the trails have been cleared of any trees or branches. It's still a great place to go and explore. There's plenty of free parking, including wheelchair parking, but not all parts of the trails or walkways would be suitable for wheelchairs or buggies as they are quite steep in places. There's also a few picnic benches and benches dotted around on some parts...

Absolutely love Slishwood. You arrive to a big carpark. As you drive in there is a walk to the right, this one is short and abruptly ends so not my favourite. To the left you have the choice of 2 walks. A forest loop walk and an amazing board walk overlooking Lough Gill and leads on to the Lake Isle of Inisfree. We saw deer 🦌 on the board walk just recently, amazing. The forest loop walk takes roughly 50 minutes and the full board walk to lake Isle of Inisfree takes over an hour. Love it so...
