I was exploring the Dalkey with my friends who were visiting me from abroad. At Dalkey town centre, I accidentely bumped/brushed into a woman with her husband. Before I could apologise, they started yelling insults at me "Watch where you're going, have some manners, go back to your country". (I am of African descent, they had the south dublin accent). Extreme overreaction for something so small. I told them that "it wasn't intentional, the pathway was too narrow", however the insults kept coming, I kept silent until they walked away. My Italian friends were shocked and stood there. Afterwards they were like "Are Irish people unfriendly towards foriegners, what is their general attitude". Despite living in "expensive areas" like Dalkey, locals tend to be very narrow minded towards foriegners, and conceal their racist thoughts until something happens that triggers them to say what they actually think. Dalkey is not multicultural, which is why the Irish people who just want to "stick with their kind" pay exorbant prices...
Read moreLovely little island with a Martello tower (no entry) ,medieval church ruins and some military ruins in Dublin bay. Great place to see seals, wild goats and birds particularly on a sunny day. Also a great place for a little peace and quite. No facilities of any sort on the island but the ferry takes about 5minutes and is pretty much on demand. Cost 10 Euro return for adults and 5 Euro for children. Ferry can be taken from colliemore...
