Stunning ruins of a Franciscan Friary....established in 1475 by John O'Connor Kerry. Built on the site of a previous church dedicated to St. Lachtin who was connected with Muskerry in the 600's. The Friary was still in use till 1580. Rumour tells of works in the building uncovering a fully clothed Monk that was found buried in the high altar area....though buried long ago was perfectly preserved....though his current location is not now known. Wonderful place with plenty to see, parts of dormitory wing, women's chapel, crypts and architectural features....lots to explore....a must visit if...
   Read moreI never knew this place existed until I saw the sign for it in Ballylongford! It's beautifully preserved, and well looked after! You can get loads of fantastic photos there. There are information panels describing the history of the abbey and how it came to be. I'd definitely recommend visiting if you are a lover...
