I love DID stores. The staff I have dealt with have always gone out of their way to look after me. So much so I have made every large electrical purchase from one of their stores since my first very positive shopping experience with them. The stores are always clean and not much different than most large electrical retailer. The thing that makes them so great is the excellent management and staff who can't do enough to help you. I purchased a TV in the Naas store a few years back. I only went in to do a price check and was leaving when one of the staff asked me if he could help. I told him my reason for being there and that I knew another big retailer had the same telly cheaper. He asked me to give them a chance which I did as I was honestly taken aback by his request. In the end he matched the price of the other store and also gave me a free Saoire view box on top. I was delighted and have been a loyal customer since. My most recent purchase was a 55" TV which I got at a great price in the sales last Christmas. This time in their Tullamore store. I dealt with the manager in this store who really couldn't do enough to help me. The first one I choose didn't have a feature that was important to me. Unfortunately I only discovered this when I got it home. I rang the store and they couldn't be more helpful. I was told to bring the TV back for a replacement or refund which I didn't the next day. I walked away with a lovely new TV which did everything I wanted and a free speaker for my trouble as they made a mistake in telling me the first TV had the feature I needed. I have made many smaller purchases in the Bandon store, again, dealing directly with the manager. James, I think his name is. Like the other two stores I shopped in. He really couldn't so enough to help me. I have since discovered that even though they are a large nationwide retailer they are actually fully family owned and really take care of their staff. We should have followed our gut feeling & stayed clear of the shop because the guy we spoke to was rude & didn't seem to want to engage in any form of conversation! We live in West Cork & didn't want to travel as far as Cork city & we wanted to purchase local so decided to go into the store & hopefully thing's would be ok once in store... How wrong we were! The guy we were dealing with was the guy who my husband spoke to on the phone. The guy was not only plain rude to talk to, he seemed completely uninterested in talking to us! When we asked him to check out one thing for us he really gave us the impression we were annoying him & he had no interest in helping us! He kept walking off & made us feel like we were time wasting because we weren't jumping to buy the first TV he showed us! Myself or my husband have never experienced someone so unprofessional! It was not busy in the store, at one point we were the only people in there so it's not like he was under pressure with other customers! We left the store, drove to Cork City & purchased a TV in another store where the customer care was exceptional! The guy we dealt with in DID in Bandon needs serious customer care training! I tried calling the store twice since Christmas to check if it was OK for me to come in and collect my order, both times leaving voicemails with my name, phone number etc and requesting a call back. I was never called back.
I went to the store yesterday to pick up the TV that had been put aside for me only to be told that it had been sold despite the fact that I was assured multiple times that it would be ready for me to collect when I had an installer organised. The salesman in the shop told me he had been trying to contact me and had left me a missed call (he didn't) and then he said he must have had the wrong number for me (he didn't as when I gave him my number he was able to pull up my order). The excuse I received was the salesman hadn't been at work and someone else had sold it which amounts to really poor stock management and customer service.
I had wanted to buy the TV locally given the pandemic but at this point I'll probably just go to Harvey Norman's or Curry's as I have dealt with them before and had no issues. I certainly will not be dealing with these guys again. Shocking stuff really, no solutions offered not even much in the way of an apology.
