We went to Har Yoash early in the morning to watch the sunrise. You can drive almost all the way up and then walk about 5–10 minutes to the viewpoint. It is high above the area, and the views across Israel, Jordan, Egypt, and Saudi Arabia are incredible.
A couple of tips: there are antennas and electric cables at the top, which take away a bit from the natural feeling and you can sometimes hear a buzzing sound. If you prefer something more quiet and untouched, the smaller hill on the other side of the road might be a nice alternative.
Regarding timing, even though the official sunrise time was 5:40, the sun became visible only around 6:00 because it first had to rise over the hills of Jordan. So plan some extra waiting time. Also, bring warm clothes. It was surprisingly windy and cold at the end of October, even with long sleeves. A hat or light jacket is definitely recommended.
