Review of Mt. Elgon Volcano
Mt. Elgon, straddling the border between Uganda and Kenya, is a spectacular yet often overlooked natural wonder. As one of Africa's oldest extinct volcanoes, it offers a unique blend of geological history, breathtaking landscapes, and rich biodiversity, making it a must-visit destination for nature enthusiasts and adventurers alike.
Landscape and Scenery
The mountain boasts a stunning array of features, including the world's largest intact volcanic caldera, beautiful waterfalls like the Sipi Falls, and unique caves such as Kitum Cave, which is famously frequented by elephants digging for salt. The expansive moorlands and jagged peaks offer panoramic views that are truly unforgettable.
Flora and Fauna
Mt. Elgon is home to a rich variety of flora, from dense tropical forests at lower altitudes to giant lobelias and groundsels in the Afro-alpine zone. The wildlife is equally impressive, with elephants, buffaloes, and a variety of primates coexisting with over 300 bird species, including the endangered Jackson’s francolin and Hartlaub’s turaco.
Activities
Hiking and trekking are the main attractions, with well-maintained trails suitable for all levels of experience. The summit of Wagagai Peak (4,321 meters) offers a challenging but rewarding trek. Other activities include bird watching, exploring the caves, and cultural interactions with local communities like the Bagisu, known for their traditional circumcision rituals.
Accessibility and Facilities
The mountain is accessible from both Uganda and Kenya, with well-organized national parks on each side. However, facilities can be basic compared to more commercialized destinations, so visitors should be prepared for a rustic experience. Local guides and porters are available and highly recommended for safety and enhancing the experience.
Tips for Visitors
Plan Ahead: Weather conditions can be unpredictable, so pack appropriate clothing and gear.
Hire a Guide: They provide invaluable knowledge about the terrain and culture.
Respect the Environment: Practice responsible tourism to preserve the delicate ecosystem.
Allow Adequate Time: Exploring Mt. Elgon fully can take several days.
Final Thoughts
Mt. Elgon is a hidden gem offering a perfect blend of adventure, serenity, and cultural immersion. While it may lack the fame of some of Africa’s other mountains, its charm lies in its unspoiled beauty and the unique experiences it offers. Read moreI visited for the Furniture Fair 2023 in April.
Very disappointed with the following aspects:
that they did not have enough space for keeping luggage. I had to walk all over the fair with all my luggage because i had the airplane in the same day. How can they not estimate the correct number of people that may need luggage deposits after all those 50 years or how many years they brag that they have a history of...
the fair used fake advertising - they used the Poliform brand all over their website and billboards - that you can visit at the fair - well guess what - you could not. You had to make an account at the Poliform reception and make an appointment - which I made because I thought that a lot of people want to visit their stand and so some order was needed and appointments to not be chaotic, but in the 3-4 days that i was there I did not receive any invitation (i didn't get any reply even now after 3 months while writing the review) - so I could not visit the Poliform stand - this is fake advertising - they should have put an asterix * next to the Poliform brand and write there that you can enter in their stand only based on invitation. I payed for full ticket but I could not visit the all of the stand at the fair.
Not to mention Minotti and Baxter which had 20-30% of their stand space as public and 70-80% of the stand space was closed from public. Lol - you pay for full ticket but only see 20%. At least I still did enter and see some pieces of furniture, not like at Poliform where i saw 0%.
Maybe I will be back in 2030, next year of...

Fiera Milano might not sit in the heart of the city — but it is the heart of something else: spatial clarity, architectural ambition, and functional elegance.
As I walked these vast corridors during Gastech 2025, camera in hand, I couldn’t help but admire what this place represents. The steel-framed, glass-roofed canopy stretches over 1 km long — almost like a spine connecting pavilions and people, light and purpose.
📐 Designed by Massimiliano Fuksas, the architecture of Fiera Milano balances brutal simplicity with flowing complexity. The canopy mimics a river of glass — undulating, asymmetrical, always drawing the eye forward. And beneath it? Endless space. Natural light. Clean lines. Quiet hums of ideas in motion.
Yes, it’s far from Milan’s bustling core. But that’s also the point.
Here, you get room to build exhibits that breathe. You get light that flatters innovation. You get a venue that doesn’t distract — it amplifies.
From an architectural lens, this place is a masterpiece of scale without clutter, ambition without excess. From a conference-goer’s view, it’s one of the most effective spaces I’ve seen for connecting minds from...
