We stayed a week in September and found it charming, the owners friendly and helpful. We stayed in the olivo apartment, it was clean, quiet and comfortable. We entered the apartment and we were greeted by a bottle if their own wine. Their wine and olive oil is very nice, we wish we had bought more to bring home with us! It rained some while we were here so we didn't get to enjoy the pool, but spent some time sitting on the swing enjoying the view of San Gimignano on the nearby hilltop, breathtaking views. ||Only downside of the stay was that we arrived Saturday afternoon by taxi without any groceries, so we took a walk down the hill to the local store for some snacks, the pizzeria was not open. Stella, the owner shared with us some of her fresh garden tomatoes and pears. The kitchen had some pasta and oil, so we were able to make some dinner the next day to get by until Monday when we could catch the bus to the nearby town to take the train to Florence for our car. This was our own poor planning, but made for a fun adventure and a great story to bring home. Breakfast is available for a small fee and well worth it, especially the cappuccino! So be sure to have a car the first day, keeping in mins the bus doesn't run every day and the rental car companies close early on Saturday and some are not open Sundays. ||We still keep in touch with our new friend, Stella, and plan to return to stay again. This place is in a good location for visiting the hill towns of the Tuscany region, and everything is accessible by car, and by train we had no difficulty getting to Florence. We spent 22 days traveling around Italy. If you are there in September, we recommend you visit the Chianti Festival that takes place in Greve in Chianti....all the wine in Italy is beautiful, and the olive oil is so...
Read moreThis was our 2nd trip to Italy and our 2nd stay at Il Girasole. The negative first: we only stayed 2 days! That's it!||This place is welcoming, has beautiful views, kind and caring hosts. I love being here. The view of San Gimignano on the hilltop is breathtaking! We took a photo on our last visit that we have since blown up to a large canvas piece over our fireplace at home. ||Stella is such a sweet lady and makes you feel like you are part of her family. ||We stayed in the Olivo room again, our favorite. Each morning we had a nice breakfast prepared by our hosts and a wonderful surprise our last morning with a homemade tiramisu! Stella and her family prepared a breakfast with some of their own products, fruit juices and jams. And let's not forget the wine in the evening! Stella's family makes a delicious red wines and the ever lovely and refreshing Vernaccia di San Gimignano.||I cannot say enough about our stay. We found it to be well located for day trips around Tuscany and so quiet for very restful evenings after long days of touring and wine tasting.||We took advantage of the kitchen in our room and my husband prepared a delicious meal for us and our friends...I think even Stella was impressed! Someday, we hope to return to Italy. That time, we will spend at least a full week if not more at Il Girasole.||Whether we are there or at home, we feel we have made life long friends with Stella and her family.||One more thing, she has a pool, which is cleaned daily! We still have not enjoyed it because we fill our days with activities throughout the region. Next time...we must take a dip...
