I have been many times over the years to Tuscany and stayed in different places but when it comes to the essence and beauty of Tuscany, La Spagliarda wins it hands down. The Location: the farmhouse has been bought by the current owners and has been entirely renovated. Its location is one of the best, on a "strada bianca", just a few hundred meters from the famous Terrapille. Being positioned on top of a hill, one can see the entire surrounding 360degrees all day long: Bagno Vignoni, Rocca d'Orcia, Monticchiello and Pienza. You always get to see sunrise and sunset. The Owner: Manuela is a kind, sweet and intelligent person, extremely knowledgeable about the region and shows a lot of interest in her guests and their needs. She has great tips for diners (all are perfect locations). Always very happy to help out, no matter what the question is. Activity: if you happen to be in a small group or just a few persons, Manuela runs cooking workshops with her friend. These are excellent workshops since you get to see from the scratch how 3/4 different pastas are made, you get to work as well, creating life a top chef, and then get to eat lunch/dinner the food you prepared. The cooking workshops are preceded by small bites and drinks. I highly recommend spending a morning or afternoon doing it.||The place is spotless clean, there is always hot water, showers are running like they should, rooms and bathrooms are spacious and small breakfast is prepared for you as you wake up. Wi-fi always working, never failed me during the 10 days. There is a semi-covered parking lot sufficient...
Read moreA beautiful stay in the middle of the Tuscan countryside based in a good location within easy access to key spots such as Pienza, Montalcino, Montepulciano etc (no more than 30mins drive to some of these locations). It's also a short drive + walk close to the location of one of the gladiator scenes where he walks amongst the wheat fields for any film fans!
The farmhouse is lovely and the pool overlooking the fields is a real bonus! The room was spacious and very clean and looked like it had been recently refurbed. Double bed was very comfortable and powerful rain shower.
Manuela the host is very friendly and gave us plenty of good recommendations for places to eat and things to do. Just a shame that we could not speak to her more as her English is limited so if you cannot speak Italian this could be a hindrance. She bakes cake for breakfast which is tasty but does get quite sweet after a few days so bit more variety would have helped. It's also not necessarily a large breakfast so if you're a big feaster would...
Read moreWe enjoyed a week's stay at this Agriturismo, postponed from 2020, together with our family, including grandchildren. It was just perfect for this and our grandchildren absolutely loved the pool especially. The Agriturismo itself has lots of Tuscan character and is well appointed. It is approached by a mile of well maintained dirt road, used by few vehicles, and enjoys a really beautiful, peaceful location in the Val d'Orcia; the only sounds being that of birdsong. We mixed and matched between cooking meals at the Agriturismo and eating out. The nearest supermarket is about 10 minutes drive away in San Quirico d'Orcia. As well as just enjoying chilling out at the Agriturimo, we greatly enjoyed visiting the surrounding hilltop villages and towns; particular favourites being Pienza and...
