石北本線の交換可能の無人駅。開駅は1923年（大正12 年）11月15日。 愛別町の町名はアイヌ語の「アイ・ペツ」（矢のように流れが速い川）が由来です。。 快晴時は大雪山を望み、上川方面に約2キロ程進んだ第５石狩川橋梁は鉄道風景撮影スポット。紅葉のシーズン10月がベストです。渓流の雰囲気、鉄橋を渡る列車が旅情を掻き立てます。 写真は2020年10月18日撮影、普通（4530D）キハ40形700代。

レンタカーでのドライブ中に、隣の安足間→当駅の順に訪問。 当駅は2線2面となっており、上川方面(2番)ホームには跨線橋にてアクセスする。 安足間は2番ホームが使用されなくなっていたのに対して、当駅では両ホームが使用されている。詳しい理由は不明。 トイレはホーム側に、男女兼用の半穴和式のものがある。こちらは特に洋式化等はされていないものの、トイレ自体は綺麗＋トイレットペーパーも完備されていた。

初めて訪ねる。２面２線の相対式のホームをもつ駅で、ホーム間は上川方面にある、跨線橋で連絡している🆗。 無人駅で駅舎も見ると、簡易駅舎のようだ。昭和６３年に建てられている。 駅舎も中心に三角屋根で左右バランスの取れたデザインだ👏。 駅舎前には、ロータリーに見える中心には一本の木🌳があり、趣きを感じる👏。
