I absolutely loved this place and it has become one of the highlights of my trip to Japan. While in Japan, I visited beautiful zen gardens and temples. This was a bit on the other spectrum. What made this place unique was the awesomely kitschy atmosphere that I really enjoyed. I have an affinity for high weirdness such as extraterrestrials, urban legends, elves, esoteric pyramid engineering, and conscious plant communication. Most of this material is primarily published by English-speaking authors, so it was really cool to experience it through the lens of the Japanese.
I was brought to this place after showing a Japanese friend a picture of a Japanese UFO book I found at Tower Records in Shinjuku, Tokyo. They were familiar with the publisher/editor and said that the publisher collaborated with this UFO research facility not too far from where we were staying in Fukushima. During a bar crawl, my friend brought me to the bar where his friend, who grew up near this facility, was bartending. WHAT!! I was able to ask the bartender thorough questions about this place. Although he was hesitant to talk about it at first because he thought I wouldn't believe him, he eventually opened up about the paranormal activity in the area. There is a mountain there shaped like a pyramid that has become a hotspot for paranormal activity. It has a very distinct shape unlike other natural structures around the area, and it is believed to be tuned to a specific frequency of electromagnetic energy. Analog compasses do not work here.
The next day, I decided to drive to this place with my friends. It is located in Iino, the town next to Fukushima, in the mountains. When we arrived, we saw two pink buildings that were hexagonal in shape. The research facility is split into two buildings, one of which houses the research facility/museum that has a library of books on ETs and UFOs, while the other building is a gift shop where you can get ramen.
We entered the museum/research facility first and I was immediately struck by the library of books they had in Japanese and the books they had on ET phenomenon in English. The tour featured statues of aliens, copies of documents, explanations of UFO technology, and diagrams of space and different types of ETs. We even watched a short documentary in a little theater, with 3D glasses, on the area's paranormal activity and how it extends out into other pyramid structures across Japan and onto mainland continents in a grid formation. The whole thing was really interesting.
As we left the museum, we climbed stairs that formed into a hiking path that led to an observatory deck where we could see the pyramid-shaped mountain. The hike was a mild one, but it was worth it for the beautiful nature scenery. As we hiked up, we encountered alien statues that were really fun. The observatory deck provided a great view of the pyramid-shaped mountain and the area's charged energy was definitely felt. Weird clouds above the mountain were also visible.
Afterward, we went to the other building, the gift shop, to load up on some alien goodies, such as fun shirts, pins, and merchandise. This place was really fun, and I feel it would be great to bring kids here. You get to experience all the wacky alien stuff, go on a great hike , and experience nature which alone is its own highlight. Although the alien stuff is kitschy and fun, the research facility does have real resources regarding this topic. This place does have a powerful energy, and it was fun to...
Read moreThe UFO Fureaikon is one of my favorite random places I've been in Japan. The museum is 100% heartfelt, and many of the exhibits are handmade. It encourages critical thought about UFOs, while still enjoying their silly mystery.
In addition, the hike up Mt. Senganmori offers great views (accompanied by tiny alien statues), and you can get some beautiful panoramic scenery of Fukushima, especially in the fall.
The shop across the street sells lots of kitschy UFO goods, as well as UFO themed foods.
I really really recommend it if you love kind of cheesy,...
