八戸駅から当駅までが青森県所在駅で、次の角の浜駅から岩手県所在駅になります。 当駅は相対式ホームの列車交換可能駅で、かつては腕木式信号機が使われていました。 現在は無人駅になっています。 まだ腕木式信号機やキハ40系気動車を使用していた頃に何度か通りまして、列車交換の待ち時間にホームに降りて写真を撮ったりして雰囲気がとても好きな駅です。

全線が単線のJR八戸線で上り下りの行き違いが出来る駅の１つです。普通に読めば「かいじょう」でしょうが、「はしかみ」と読ませます。😅

青森県最東端の駅。町名を名乗っているが鉄道沿線ではなく国道45号沿いに階上町の中心部があり、役場等へはとなりの大蛇駅の方が距離は短い(それでも3.5kmほどある)。

鮫～久慈間では陸中八木駅と当駅しか列車交換ができない(前後15kmずつ離れている)。 初めてこの区間を通った際、交換待ちしていた列車と離合するはずだったが冬の強風で反対側が20分ほど遅延していた。そのため定刻だったこちら側が逆に待つことになり、ダイヤ通りではできな...
