Beautiful Coast! The wild horses are beautiful to look at as they road around freely. You are not allowed to touch or feed them! We came out here three times so far and this last time the lighthouse was finally open after it was closed because of COVID. The lighthouse has stairs only! There is a small restaurant / Giftshop there with a very limited Ramen menu. I can't remember if they took card but I highly doubt it! There is also a vending machine in front of the restaurant. Restrooms are a little further down the road, so I would suggest to stop at a convenience store on the way ( the closest is about 30/40 min away) and get food/ snacks there and stop at the bathroom before exploring! There is no shade and lots of bugs depending on the time of the year you're visiting. Glass Floats can be found there if you're extremely lucky! Hokkaido can also be seen across the water on...

This lighthouse is easy to get to after a beautiful scenic drive, is about two hours north of Misawa, with interesting stops on the way. It's protected behind a guard gate and is open only certain hours. The vast coastline property surrounding it offers endless gorgeous views.

Some "wild" Kandachime horses were behind a fence near the front gate, dining on hay. Cattle are also grazed on the property, according to signage.

I didn't go up in the lighthouse but will when I bring my family next year. There's a little restaurant and gift shop at the parking area where one can buy snacks, postcards and souvenirs.

It was very enjoyable and well worth the trip, not too crowded on a Friday mid-morning, though a bus was leaving as I arrived. There were probably about ten...

It began as a casual stop — a frame from a map and a hunch — and became one of those rare discoveries that rearrange your inner atlas.

The scene was mesmerising: crisp air that smelled of woodsmoke and sea, cliffs dressed in quiet green, and a horizon that seemed to be composing its own music. Where the Fall in Canada taught me how to let go, this place taught me how to remember. It reaches out like an old friend with new stories; I’ll return, because some places do more than welcome you - they insist you come...

Went out with the hope to experience the wild horses, but sadly there were none to be seen. The high winds kept up from exploring the lighthouse (small fee of ¥200 to climb), but it was still a beautiful day to explore the surroundings! Recommend wearing closed toe shoes, as I wore sandals and had occasional issues climbing steeper hills (and it might prove dangerous with the many cow patties out there). Worth the drive from the Misawa area!
