Sugatami Station — Local services in Higashikawa

I visited Mount Asahi in mid-June, and to my surprise, there was still quite a bit of snow left on the ground. I had expected it to be very cold, but a light jacket was more than enough—weather-wise, it was perfect. The scenery was absolutely breathtaking.

Walking across the vast stretches of lingering snow, I was constantly surrounded by a stunning variety of natural landscapes. Steaming sulfur vents added a dramatic touch, while crystal-clear alpine ponds reflected the sky. The contrast between the snow and the emerging greenery was especially striking.

One of the highlights of the hike was seeing the alpine rhododendrons in bloom—they were everywhere and incredibly beautiful. It's a cable car station, so not really a life changing experience. I've seen a few in my life, in winter with ski as well as in summer. I was here in autumn for a bit of hiking and noticed some info stalls and explanations in the station, which I've never seen in other places, so they do care for their visitors. 190km northeast of Sapporo, Mt. Asahidake is the tallest mountain in Hokkaido Prefecture. 🇯🇵

It is part of the Daisetsuzan Volcanic Group of the Ishikari Mountains, it is located in the northern part of the Daisetsuzan National Park.

1st impression td, ya Tuhan. Keindahan alam yg sgt mempesonakan. Sejenak ku terfikir, betapa indahnya alam ini dgn hitam putih kehidupan ini. Membuatku sedar, betapa ku leka selama ini, sehingga lupa utk bersyukur dgn segala yg Tuhan anugerahkan kpdku. (Introspeksi diri sebentar! 😆)

With a spectacular view, this is the real 'Winter Wonderland' in the northernmost part of Japan. Suasana yg sgt indah, ala² video Klip lagu M2M (The Day You Went Away) dgn suhu sgt sejuk sekitar -7°C! I recommend this place as a must visit destination in the central region of Hokkaido. 🙌🏻
