A former 20th-century hotel transformed into a museum showcasing cultural artifacts from the post-Meiji Restoration era. While English explanations are available, a guided tour in Japanese offers a deeper, more immersive experience of the main building and annex. The museum is housed in a wooden building with stunning natural light streaming through the front. Its narrow halls and stairways lead to meticulously decorated rooms, each filled with items reflecting the room’s original purpose. On the second floor of the main building, you can see calligraphy written by a teacher of Japan's first emperor, adding a touch of historical significance

Very nice museum located in a historical building. The entrance fee is cheap and you can even get a free guided tour that's very informative (English translation of all the tour content is provided in a multi-page pamphlet). Staff were incredibly kind and welcoming!

An excellent museum in the island's second oldest wood structure. You can get an extensive guided tour in Japanese or read the same text in English by asking for the printed English version.

This is a nice hidden gem in the Hyuga Area. Many long-time residents don't even know about it. It is inexpensive to tour and an experienced guide will give you a tour in Japanese (English guide sheet is available). The tour takes longer than you might expect as the actual site is bigger than it appears from the front. I recommend this museum built in a former wooden hotel if you are interested in the area history and general Japan history...
