When it is a hot summer day in the middle of summer, a lighthouse visit gives the true feeling. With that in mind, I used the Sadamisaki lighthouse on August 17. Even if the drive is very pretty, I can enjoy looking at the steep mountains and the Bungo channel while my wife looks for small teahouses along the road. Still, when I reach the parking lot, it is time to walk to the lighthouse.

It is 1.8 kilometers from the parking lot to the lighthouse, and the road can be very steep, so please dress appropriately for the lighthouse. As for me, I prefer jeans for walking, and my boots were strong enough for the road. Small children should be cautious of the edge of the road, where there may be a precipice and falling is possible. Also, please bring plenty of water, especially in the summer. The last vending machine is at the parking lot, which is quite. . . As for me, a vending machine closer to the lighthouse would make a lot of business, but I think it would disrupt the beauty of the lighthouse. Actually, if you look closely, you may see that there are toilets available for those who need them. Under the summer sun my wife was motivated the whole walk by the thought that the lighthouse would have a vending machine. She seemed quite surprised when we could not find any.

The lighthouse itself is pretty, with clean white lines. Built in Taisho 7, it is over 100 years helping the ships in the Bungo channel! It has not been manned since Heisei 5, which is over 30 years ago. Maybe it is because of this that I can't tour the inside of the lighthouse.

Overall, the Sadamisaki is recommended for many people who want to take a walk, or who want to look at ships or at the sea, or who want to see the 88 scenic views of Shikoku. However, I feel like the views from the cape are more valuable than the lighthouse itself. Even for lighthouse enthusiasts, you may feel conflicted. I wish I could see inside the lighthouse but I cannot see inside. But, if I don't go I will miss seeing such an old and interesting lighthouse. For lighthouse lovers, it is recommended, but you may find you feel disappointed when you see it.

[ The Lighthouse at the tip of the Sadamisaki Peninsula in Ehime prefecture,Japan]

Sadamisaki Lighthouse belongs to the Seto Inland Sea National Park and it is a white lighthouse towering at the tip of the Sadamisaki Peninsula that is the longest and narrowest protruding peninsula in Japan.

The lighthouse was built to play a leading role in the navigation safety of the Bungo Channel and a set of lens lamps was relocated from the lighthouse and lit in April 1918.

It takes about 1.8 km from the parking lot to the lighthouse and need to walk about 20 minutes on foot.

Along the way, we can see the ruins of the former Japan army headquarters and the battery of Toyo Fortress.

I was deeply moved to think that the battleship Yamato had finally passed through the Bungo Channel

*Shot by my Nikon's flagship mirrorless camera Z9 The lenses are f/2.8 24-70mm wide-angle zoom lens and f/4.5-5.6 100-400mm...
