中原悟中原悟
真言宗智山派 三箱山法海寺によりました。 磐城三十三観音　第五札所　湯之嶽観音 永禄2年(1559)2月25日に宥長法印が田場坂に開いたお寺です。当寺は湯ノ岳観音の別当寺であり、この堂宇は大同2年(807)に東国に下向した徳 一大師が自作の十一面観世音菩薩を安置し、開山したと伝えられています。 地元の人々からは「中の寺」と呼ばれ、春の桜・秋の紅葉が美しいお寺です。 境内にはシダレザクラ、ソメイヨシノがあり、両桜ともに美しい姿を見せます。

法海寺の梵鐘は、湯長谷藩遠山家(内藤家)の城下であった下湯長谷(現常磐下湯長谷町)に在住していた治工の鈴木清佐衛門則清の作です。 現在法海寺に掲げられている梵鐘は延宝９年(1681)に寄進されたものです。 なお、湯ノ岳観音堂は江戸時代の末まで湯ノ岳頂上付近に祀られていましたが、安政２年(1855)の火災により焼失し、明治14年(1881)に法海寺境内に再建されました。
