This was a great family bonding experience. My 3 year old got to experience the best DIY onsen experience. As soon as he saw the hot springs, without any hesitation, he took off his clothes and just went for it. My husband and I was in shock. 😂😂 But it was a warm sunny 12 pm day. So we let him enjoy it 😂

We brought our own shovel but there’s an available shovel. Please if you use it and put it back to the same place. Or you can rent one at the visitor center.

There are no shower rooms or changing rooms so please prepare water and towels to wash off after.

Clean as we GO. Please take your water bottles or trash or garbage or drink cans with you. Let’s keep this wonderful hotspot clean.

We dug near the shore line. The water was around 38C and our toddler made it his own onsen experience.

Please try and have a great...

A beautiful beach that seems rarely visited. Over 2 hours, there were only 4 other people who came by. It is a bit off the beaten path and a little hard to find. There is space to park up to about a half dozen cars. But the real draw is that there is a slight sulphur smell in some areas, and the sand looks dark and wet, even above the waterline. The reason is that volcanic hot spring water is flowing from Sakurajima through the sand and into the sea. This makes the ocean water warmer than expected near the beach, and also means you can dig into the sand near the waterline (at low tide) to make yourself a natural, mini for onsen. How awesome is that? If you need a shovel and directions, the visitor center gift shop on the west coast sells mini shovels and has a...

Famous enough, but not viral. you'll probably see like 3 people visiting for the experience. you can rent/buy a shovel from Sakurajima port's visitor center to use it here. there actually is a public bus that goes here, it just isn't updated in google since the bus company that owned this line were merged with Kagoshima City Bus. visit at low tide, unless your little onsen would be submerged almost immediately. probably rich of iron, and seems to be around 30°C which would feel lukewarm. it's not a good onsen material, but the experience itself...
