2010年の夏に自転車旅行をした際、当駅を利用しました。 この時は秋田の大館から西へ向かって自走しておりました。数日で柏崎に到達しましたが、市街地を抜けて少し経ってからパンク。確か夕食を食べた後で、時刻は20時近かったかと。街灯も少なく、暗中での修理も面倒だった為、輪行を決断。暗い中を自転車をひいてトボトボと、国道下の集落まで坂を下り、何とかこの駅へたどり着きました。当時は真っ暗でしたので、駅の全容は全く分かりませんでした。
