Mt. Chorogatake — Local services in Kyotamba

Visited 9/5 Definitely worth the visit. I would advise that you take the paved road to the top of the mountain. We had taken another route that although was beautifully surrounded by nature, the middle section of the route was very steep so you would have to be very careful not to tumble going up (please prepare in advance if you take this path). The entire route is 2.8 km and takes about an estimated 2 hours. The best route may just be to park at the parking lot near the management building and make your way up the trail of Shinrin Fureai Road (森林ふれあいロード). This mountain doesn't get many visitors (at least not at this point) and the paved road going up is blocked off by a fence (with a "beware of bears" warning) and covered by a bit of debris showing vehicles do not pass often (you may see some tree cutting by road workers). Along the way, we encountered many flies and bees as well as a small snake, frogs and the Japanese raccoon dog. You can also see the Nanairo no Ki which is a magnificent tree with 7 kind of trees growing in one trunk. Unfortunately, there is no restroom along the route so make sure to go the restroom before embarking on the path! Mt.Chorogatake (917m) is one of ten areas of the Kyoto Tamba Kogen...

Best hike ever! No one was there or up there when I hiked up. Met with 1 hiker on my way down. 1 hour on the steep car road (there's a small door on that gate or you can slide through the side of the gate). Bring insect spray, there's a tonnes of them buzzing around. Get sticks to help you walk up the steep path....

●ルート 登山口は、長老ヶ岳の南西にある大迫から。 和知富士を経由して、長老ヶ岳へ。 帰りは音海の登山口へ下り、あとはロードでアグリパークわちまで行って終了。

登山口に入ってすぐ、キツネを発見したが、それ以降は野生動物に出会えず。 長老ヶ岳山頂で人間3名と出会ったが、山道では誰にも会わず。 山頂からの眺めは素晴らしい。 また、まとわりついてくるハエなどは1匹もおらず。まだ羽化していない様子。

大迫登山口～音海からの登山道が合流する地点までは、マーキングテープはまばら。GPSまたは地図は必須。 こちらのルートは基本的に稜線なので、太陽が当たり、景色も多く見ることができて、気分的に楽しめる…が、なかなかの斜度の連続で、ほとんど走れない。また、和知富士のあたりで3か所ほど崖を通る。

長老ヶ岳から音海登山口までのルートは、マーキング頼りでオッケー（2回ほどロストしたが）。 音海登山口のあたり1～2kmは樹海で急登。つづら折りが続く。このルートは私は好みではない…（個人の感想）。
