Fairchild Pool — Local services in Okinawa

I think trying to eat a leather work boot seasoned with broken glass shards would be TWICE as enjoyable as trying to deal with this pool. Honestly I used to swim here every day and I stopped going because the hours are so inconsistent and inconvenient. They are never correct on the website and you waste time driving all the way over there just for it to be closed. They close the entire pool for kiddie swim lessons which I’ve never seen done in a pool this size; they will even kick their patrons out of their lanes for the elementary swim team, but at least leave some lanes open. And even when I swam there daily one the lifeguards was very rude and luckily the manager came out and corrected him. (I was a lifeguard and manager of a pool and rec. center for years before I moved to the island so I know a lot about what goes into it and theres no hate for the manager) but the pool often had huge clumps of hair, old bandaids and plastic garbage at the bottom that would be there for multiple days in a row (like I would see the same bandaid in the deep end the whole week and finally I would just dive down and pick it up myself and throw it up on the deck to finally get cleaned up) they obviously weren’t vacuuming the bottom at night. So I started going to camp foster to swim even though it’s farther. But even they are closed this week so I tried to go to Fairchild again after DOUBLE checking the hours on the website and as I’m sure you could guess, yep they were closed. Again. Wasted a 30 minute drive for nothing. For a sub-par pool with garbage at the bottom it’s definitely not worth jumping through the hoop that is their hours. I won’t be gambling on them being open anymore. I’d rather just pay for entry at Chatan park OR swim in the open ocean...

Pretty good pool, well maintained. The locker rooms are clean and there are many bathroom stalls. The water is warm and doesn't smell like chlorine unlike the Hagerstrom pool down where the Teen Center is on Kadena. Would be great for lap swims and diving, definitely would swim here...
