Hachiman Shrine : This Hachiman Shrine is located in Minami ( south part ) of a town called Komatsu in the west side of Shiga Prefecture. It is just a little north west of Oumi Maiko Station on a ground of uphill area. According to the record it was a sacred ground once served itself as a point where servants of neighboring Shirahige Shrine and Hiyoshi Shrine to rest on their ways. Although the shrine was once all burned down by lord Oda Nobunaga, it was rebuilt into the current form in 19th century. The shrine is known for its festival called Hassaku Matsuri in which locals hold a sacred sumo competition among children starting at 19:00 in the evening. There is a large stone lantern as well as guardian dogs of Komainu holding a ball in its precincts. Notice a small baby komainu next to a large one.
