Incredible ryokan, highly recommended. Quiet, serene and excellent value for money. We rented the private sauna and onsen room which had everything we needed. So many thoughtful touches such the complimentary treats in the room fridge and shared freezer, high quality sauna hats with sauna robe and lounge wear and comfortable futon and pillow. An excellent range of toiletries and muji skincare free to use, as well as kettle, tea and Nespresso coffee in room. The whole experience has been wonderful and I can feel the warm hospitality and care that has gone into making this beautiful place. Interior design and amenities are quality and luxurious. Staff are very responsive to my questions and are always eager to help. One comment I would make is that there aren’t many food options onsite or near the property for lunch and dinner. Once we got settled in we didn’t want to leave! Traditional and Japanese breakfast is offered, however I would recommend bringing your own food to heat up in the communal microwave for lunch and dinner. Otherwise there is a very affordable vending machine with drinks, cup noodles and snacks :) Perhaps for the future, they can implement a variety of convenience foods in a separate vending machine. Or one day they will offer lunch and dinner and I will live here forever haha.

A newly constructed, small scale ryokan with private onsen baths per room. Absolutely flawless room aesthetic. The location is a 20 minute taxi ride from the station, but you can walk back down to the bus stop to get back into Shimoda (I would not recommend walking from the station - it is a 45 minute hike uphill on some very narrow roads). Service was good when needed, but felt more like an Airbnb in the hands-off approach. Bring food from Shimoda, as there are no options nearby at nighttime. However, making the trip to the bakery up the hill is well worth the hike. I would give this location 5 stars if the pricing was slightly more reasonable, otherwise a fantastic stay.

If you want a secluded, off the beaten path stay.. this is your spot! Not only are you surrounded by nature but you have your own private hot spring bath!!! The room has 3 sections- entry & main living, bath zone and then balcony. You can open the bath area to balcony or close off with sliding door. Room amenities are plenty and above and beyond. We did both Japanese fish breakfast and the jumbo toast (looked straight out of a Ghibili film). East check in process and they have a vending machine with odds and end snacks you may want since place is out of town.
