Goishigahama — Local services in Shimoda

Road down to the parking area is not well maintained and is dangerous. My van got stuck and other visitors helped, but the staff who claim to own the parking area did not help at all and just rushed over to claim “pay 2,000 or we will call the police”. Very rude and unhelpful.

I thought it might be interesting to visit this beach but it’s nothing special. Rocky, silty, narrow. No facilities at all. There are so many amazing places around here, but this is not...

Could be a wonderful place to snorkel, if there wasn't a scammer here. If you go down the road you have to pay for parking, which I can understand, but we went by foot and the guy in charge of the parking was asking us 500¥ per person to access the beach! They don't speak English and he will try to say that this is his property, but he doesn't own the beach, he just want to make money, don't feed...

Great snorkelling here. Lots of colourful fish, moon wrasse, boxfish, puffers, stingrays, the odd moray eel, some schools of little squid, and tons of bioluminescent ctenophores (aka comb jellies - don't worry they're not jellyfish and don't sting at all) floating around.
