占冠村ショッピングモール — Local services in Shimukappu

Local foods, produce, artisanal products. I especially loved the wooden products - with descriptions of the wood used. And the traditional symbolism of the wood, some as talismans, some as holy trees.

This local craftsman is using old growth trees that are sometimes felled during wood plantation (use Google translate to see how description of them salad bowls wood). The cost of selling this wood is quite high, often higher than the price of the sale itself. Gathering it, transporting it costs a lot of money, so unfortunately, this good wood can often be pulped - what a waste of the trees - cherry(Sakura), Japanese Oak, elm, etc. Rather than having the wood pulped into paper, this craftsman uses his small workshop to create one-off products locally. An intentional use of his time to create slow products that are meaningful and useful. Giving life to the tree/ wood that is felled.

Highly recommend these local roadside stops as they support the community's local businesses, offer authentic souvenirs that aren't kitsch and are generally hand-made, Japanese-owned local brands or craftsmanship. Not a Maccas or big chain in sight!

仕方のない事なのですが、この道の駅は大々的にゴミは持ち帰って下さいといたる所に看板、施設内音声案内でも何度も繰り返し。。。

他の道の駅でも施設内にゴミ箱は有るけど閉店⌚️になるとシャッターが降りてゴミは捨てれなくなる。。。これは分かる！車中泊などでマナーもモラルも守れない奴が多いから。。。 でも営業時間で施設内で買った時に出たゴミも捨てれないのは流石に旅をしている私には帰って捨てれないので、ここで買って出たゴミ位は処分させて欲しいと思いました！！
