Takenohama Beach is located on the north-eastern coast of Toyooka City in Hyogo Prefecture. This part of the northern coast of Hyogo Prefecture is a part of Sanin Coast Geopark ( widely stretching from the coast of Kyotango in Kyoto to Hyogo Prefecture ). Along this white sand beach are some pine trees making a vivid contrast in the view next to the see and it is designated as one of the 100 beautiful sights of a beach in Japan. The area in which this beach is located is called Takeno. Back in old-times this area was flourishing as a port town where commercial vessels of Kitamaebune made their stop over along their trip. Merchants carried various commercial goods on those vessels along Japan Sea. Today the beach is popular among visitors to enjoy swimming in summer time. You can see some interesting rock formation around the area of Takeno along the coast.

You can also walk around and find a Lawson and a small grocery store and a seafood shop named Burizen. It really is a very quiet town but I like it that way as contrast from where I am in Cebu, Philippines.
Bonus points: If you speak decent Japanese, the locals are really a warm, friendly bunch. Reminds me of my own elderly...
