This was one of my favourite stops in Japan this time. It is out of the way but is totally worth it. If you have ever played the game Elden Ring, you will be amazed at the similarities to the mines in that game in this place. We had the whole thing to ourselves from start to finish. There are bats in the cave and a lot of steps. They are steep and small and high. There are some spots that are very low, so since I am 6'3", I had to mind my head a few times. They give you a flashlight that is for looking into the deep areas and high ceilings and would be essential if the power went out. I don't know how deep you go, but it's pretty far, and they tell you it 500 meters one way, but they don't mention the steepness and depth. They claim a comfortable 16c inside, but my God, the deeper you got, the humidity gets insane. I was drenched in sweat by the time we came out. Oh, and it's one way to a dead end (Boss gate Elden Ring fans) so then you turn around and go back thenway you came and notice a bunch of stuff you didn't see when looking backwards.
