Uriwari Falls — Local services in Wakasa

Uriwarino Taki : Waterfall of Uriwari is located in Wakasa-cho ( little south-east of Obama ). The water flowing out from this place is designated as one of the exquisite waters in Japan. Now it is ranked as the second best drinkable water in Japan. The place is called Uriwari-no Taki in Japanese. Taki stands for waterfall and Uri is melon. Wari = split. Combining all together " Melon Splitting Waterfall ". It was given such name since the water is so cold as to split a melon. As you follow the water stream you will reach up to the headwaters which is held sacred among the locals therefore the area is barricaded by sacred fences along with a torii gate. The forest around the headwaters offers extreme natural beauty with sun shining through the leaves with the ground covered with lush green of moss. This sacred ground is in the care of tentokuji Temple built right next to the headwaters. This temple Taishi-do was built in this place in 1810 as one of the places where once Kobo Taishi visited and left a words " Someone should build a sacred place in here. " before he left this ground. Inside the holy temple hall there are three bodies of sacred statues ( one Amidanyorai and two Bosatsu statues ) are resting in peace. The place has a historical connection with The eighty eight sacred places of Shikoku where Kobo Taishi visited since the main object of warship in those sacred places was made of stone from a beach of Sado Island and on this beach there is a stone monument with an inscription saying " Bound to Wakasa Tentokuji Temple ". This is why the place is named Sekibutsu ( stone buddhist statue ) Hachijyu Hachikasho ( The eighty eight sacred places ). The sign says " please do not go inside the barricade. This is the sacred water which Hachidai Ryu-o ( Eight sacred Great Dragons ) felt holy spirit of kannon Bosatsu. This whole ground is a sacred training ground for priests of Buddhism enshrining Hudo myo-o ( guardian deity ). The water is believed to have a sacred power to heal illness. Amongst the stone you can find rare species of red algae alive in the water. Down the stream is a recreational park with a koi ( carp ) pond surrounded by the ground filled with seasonal flowers. "想像していた滝と全然ちがう" ってかたが少なからずおられますけれど この滝の "瓜(売り)"は

"高低差や景観" ではなく "水"

そのものなのです😏❇️ｷﾗﾘﾝ

瓜割の滝の前にたつと背筋のあたりが"ゾクッ"として何かのパワーを感じます。 水がもう信じられないくらい綺麗で冷たいのです。(笑)

のがこの滝の名の由来というのも納得するほどですね🤔

昼夜の寒暖差が激しい日の早朝に訪れると滝から流れ落ちてきた水から霧が発生してなんとも幻想的で神秘的な風景が広がります。

滝周辺の石や岩には びっしりと苔(こけ)が生えていて昼間でも薄暗くジメジメしています。 目には見えないけれど 木霊(こだま)があちらこちらにいっぱいいそうで " もののけ姫 " の舞台を 連想してしまうのは わたくしだけでしょうか❔
