The lake has greatly expanded and has covered buildings and some roads making some of the attractions and places for interaction obsolete. The climate change and deforestation has been associated as the reason. You have to use your own car to drive about 18km from gate to an area to view the lake. It is far and slow because of the dirt and rock (not gravel, rock) road. I was surprised at the cost for non-residents being 50usd. Locals is 3usd. The main reason I am surprised is because you go to see three things, a hot spring (Americans don't get it twisted, its a boiling spring, over 200 degrees Fahrenheit this aint what we call hot spring, bring an egg to boil), the massive amount of flamingos and the beautiful lake. You might spend 20 minutes by the lake after 45 mins of driving from main gate. I went to Lake Nakuru National Park prior and foreigner rate was 35USD, to see Zebras and Giraffes and more. So I was surprised at the cost. But that is what it is. Unfortunately, tourism is very very low due to covid and also the lake rising, but it is gorgeous. I'm glad I went. I just want people to really know what to expect.
The best part of the park is the guide who can tell you all the things you want to know. Like how flamingos get their color. My guide was Patrick and he was also great at taking photos. Tip your guide! The view is magnificent.
Go with an suv if you can, just to make it easier. Use their washroom before driving to lake area. Get a guide to learn the science and history. Buy honey from the locals on the road home. It's a primary source of income in the area. Stop by Lake Bogoria spa for lunch and swimming. If you love experience and memories of being in a very unique place,...

Read moreI find this place a little strange. The hot springs and campsites are all underwater, which is understandable ofcourse. But they were flooded years ago! Why are there no new campsites? And also the locals come and graze their goats and cows. Doesnt feel very secure. KWS do better Otherwise a decent road with some rocky bits. High ground clearance and 4x4 car required. Amazing views of the lake...
