Kirov Reservoir — Local services in Talas Region

It was built in 1975 in the Talas River in the Kyrgyz SSR to supply water to the agricultural regions of the Talas Valley and, primarily, the neighboring Kazakh Republic. Cereals, vegetables, fodder crops have been grown in these places for decades, but in such an arid climate this is only possible with additional irrigation. The large scale structure has been under construction for ten years. In parallel, an irrigation network was created, a concrete and gravel plant was built nearby to ensure an uninterrupted supply of necessary materials to the construction site. The dam is decorated with a huge head of Lenin, the size of a five-story house. Opposite, a high relief is built on the road, telling the story of the lives of the toilers of Kyrgyztan.

It was a long ride to this place and really was not worth it for me. It was neat seeing the layers from the different levels of water over the years. The dam with Lenin's face on it was pretty cool. Once we got down to the water it smelled real bad and the area was pretty muddy. Looked like there were some other places you could go that...
