Snow covers the Qadisha Valley (the Holy Valley) in Lebanon, concealing features of a bygone era The photo shows the trail formed in the valley and the rugged slopes where the stillness and silence of the mountains Between the sides of the valley lie a number of hanging monasteries and silos dating back to the first spread of Christianity The valley also has natural caves carved into the slopes of the hills - which are almost inaccessible - decorated with frescoes attesting to the architecture specially designed for the spiritual and vital needs of a life of austerity. The French poet Lamartine visited him and said about him: "No scene made an impression on me like this valley did. This place combines the beauty of lines, the greatness of the peaks, the accuracy of details and the diversity of colors." The name "Qadisha" goes back to the Semitic roots that mean "holiness", as it was one of the symbols of the Maronite Christian community, and it was a destination for Muslims to retreat as well, as the Andalusian traveler Ibn Jubair mentioned when he visited it in the twelfth century. The valley is 1500 meters above sea level, with a depth of about 500 meters, and it is located in the north of the mountain range.
