AMAZING MOUNTAIN!! There are endless great things I could say about Vincent and Mount Mulanje Tours. Vincent is not simply a remarkable hiking tour guide but an all-around remarkable man. He is kind, patient, gracious, smart, understanding, accommodating, and so helpful. Four of my friends and I found Vincent online and contacted him through his WhatsApp contact info. He replied promptly and helped us with everything we needed prior to starting the trek. He arranged for our transportation when we arrived into Blantyre and was there as soon as we got off the bus. He then took us to a nearby grocery store and worked with us to garner all the food we would bring with us. He gave us all his recommendations but then also gave us freedom to pick out separate items. The transportation to and from the mountain was arranged as well. We did about 4 days on the mountain and it was amazing not having to worry about a single thing. I have done several backpacking treks around the world and I’ve always done it on my own without guides or porters which is how I prefer it but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t absolutely love that Vincent and his team took care of everything. They did 100x times better of a job than I could have done myself. I never had to worry about a single thing. His porters were also incredible people who did more than just carry our bags but became our friends giving us great laughs and memories. Our chef was absolutely incredible. His cooking was amazing for every one of our meals and it became something we will all always remember. If you have any doubt or question about choosing Mount Mulanje Tours for your trip I am telling you right here that this is the best possible choice. They will ensure that this is a stress free trip of a lifetime for you. Thank you, Vincent and crew, for everything you did for us. We miss you and wish...
Read moreI was there in 2010. The peak is at 3001 meters. It was 4 of us around 30 years old. All very fit. You need to know that this is not a walk in the park. First of all, it's hot during daylight, and freezing cold at night (summertime). You DO need a porter and a guide. Because you need someone to carry your water. We both paid and tipped them both well. This is also a 3 day trip to make it somewhat comfortable. Day 1. Start at around 600 meters above sea level , and climb some 1000 meters plus a lot flat, before arriving at a cabin to spend the night. Important to know, that these cabins are VERY BASIC and not for the faint hearted, if you have high standards. Day 2. You will climb a bit more, pass your next cabin for night nr 2,and do the top trekking up and down approximately 1200 metres up and down. This is a race against time, because you only have 12 hours of daylight, so we were a bit short on time but did spend a good hour at the top to see the views. Also the top part is a bit steep, so also not for inexperienced trekkers. I have done "Norways toughest mountain race" /75 km and 5900 vertical meters. This is much easier, but you better do 3 days and have bother a porter and guide. When you get back down to your cabin just before sunset, you now enter a second cabin. This cabin is, if possible, even more basic then the first one, and even though I live in cold Norway, as a sports and outdoor teacher, this was my coldest night. Due to not having enough and warm enough sleeping bags. As soon as you don't put fire in the oven, the non insulated walls let all the heat out, and there are ONLY mattresses there (by 2010). DAY 3 You walk back down to civilization, but to another place than were you parked your car, so you need to get a "taxi" to...
