Bongawan Firefly Tour — Local services in Borneo

It's a long drive to feed a macaque a banana and walk on the beach. The tour is missing something to make it worth the treck. Cannot verify the presence of Proboscis Monkeys along this river which was both good and bad. Bad because I really wanted to see one but good in the sense that they aren't caged and spotting an animal in the wild is sometimes down to luck. The guides are kind, knowledgeable and friendly and the fireflies at the end of the tour were nice, thought there would be more than ten, though this could just be down to the time of the year. We had a great time with this river cruise. Our tour guide was "Birdy' and he really was helpful and took care of us from start to finish. He was knowledgeable and provided good insights during the cruise. Unfortunately we couldn't view the Proboscis monkey but rest of the tour was as advertised. 2 areas that can be improved - the food served during the dinner was very basic and also the van used during the transfer should be more comfortable. We stayed at Pacific Sutera & it takes almost 1.5 hours to reach the river...

I give it 4 stars. The tour itself is fun and the guides are good however they just don’t care about trash. They don’t even feel ashamed. The river is full of plastic and the guides even give plastic bags to monkeys who then dump it in the river. I really feel like Sabah people have zero concerns for plastic.
