The ranger's office is only open in the morning, and would most likely be closed by the time you return (if you go all the way to the peak & to Telapak Buruk airplane crashsite). Parking available onsite, by the roadside.
The trail is well-maintained and easy to follow (however it does fork out once or twice, and is quite tough - so would be advisable to get a guide or bring an experienced hiker along).
There's 2 checkpoints before the peak - both within approximately 1 hour's hike from each other (moderate pace). From the ranger's station, we started off with a nice stroll to Lata Berembun (Berembun Waterfall). Then after a gradual incline we reached Gua Kambing (Goat Cave). This is the last water point before the peak, so better fill up if you didn't bring a lot (i think most people would need about 2.5 - 3L to make it to the airplane crash site and back). Next came a killer climb (about 70-80 degrees i think)...all the way to the peak of Berembun.
If you were to just stop at the peak, the whole trip would take you about 6 hours (moderate pace, semi-fit). If you decide to go to Telapak Buruk, it might take 10-14 hours, so better be prepared to come down with a headlamp. It gets dark quite quickly...from...
Read moreTo get to the waterfall, Lata Berembun: Standard is about 45mins hike. Trail is clear and easy. Can bring kids up to here. Be warned that you go through some fallen trees.
Lata Berembun nice for some camping, lepak, makan while enjoying the river. Can be really cold there. Even have arah kiblat shown.
To Gua Kambing after Lata, about an hour or so. Clear trail, relatively easy except for the long journey.
To Berembun Peak, high elevation about 1.5km. Takes about 1 hour and a half average. Moderate to hard because climbing all the way.
From Berembun Peak to crash site is 2.5km going down. And additional 3km+ to Telapak Buruk.
Nowadays, people go until Peak only. Some may choose to go to crash site. But very seldom people go to Telapak Buruk because it'll take very long...
Read moreNice trail & stunning view at Lata Berembun. The trail is easy but muddy and slippery, yet you still can enjoy the 40mins hike along the way to the waterfall with normal pace. The water is crystal clear, the place is clean and well maintained. My kids really enjoy sliding and swimming at the waterfall so we end up spend almost 2 hours there. Be mindful, the water pond depth is around 1.7m ish (at the sliding area) so parent/adult supervision is a must for kids and non-swimmer to avoid any unforeseen issue happen. Permit - You can just walk in to buy the permit at the front reception. No online or pre-booking required. Leeches - please expect that in the cool & muddy forest. Luckily I just caught 1 😉 Parking - free parking &...
