Bukit Keluang is one of the most popular hiking spots in Terengganu, Malaysia. Located near the town of Besut, this scenic hill attracts both locals and tourists with its beautiful sea views and peaceful surroundings.

The trail is relatively short and beginner-friendly, making it a great choice for those who want to try hiking for the first time or enjoy a light outdoor activity.

The hike usually takes about 20 to 30 minutes to reach the top, depending on your pace. Along the way, you’ll be greeted with fresh air, lush greenery, and ocean breezes. The view from the top is stunning you can see the coastline, clear blue water, and nearby islands. It’s especially beautiful during sunrise and sunset, when the sky is filled with soft colours.

At the base of the hill, there is a beach called Pantai Bukit Keluang. It’s a great spot to relax after your hike. You’ll also find many stalls selling local food, drinks, and snacks, which is perfect if you need a quick bite.

However, it can get crowded during weekends or school holidays. Also, be careful if it rains, as the trail can become slippery.

Overall, Bukit Keluang is a great spot for nature lovers, photographers, and families looking for a...

Don’t be fooled by ‘pranksters’ saying they climbed 15mins to reach the peak. Because of all these people, my husband and I risked life and limb to get to the mountain, haha.

I have to say without my husband; I wouldn’t have completed the climb. He literally climbed in sandals without any fear. But it’s just that age catches up with us; we were all breathless in short 5mins just by taking the steep stairs. Clasp any ropes, tree barks, sticks, or rocks along the way; you’ll need them! We took the starting point at the staircase close to the beach, the longest and most challenging, descended the shortest and fastest route at the back of the hill, and walked around 1km back to the beach area where we parked our car. The panoramic scenery at the peak makes the climbs worthy. You could see the south china sea straight into the horizon with a couple of islands dotting the landscape. And there are a few viewpoints along the way at the top.

The entire hike took us approx 75 minutes. This hike is the most unforgettable experience on day 5 of our self-drive road trip in east Malaysia. Would I come back again?! Sure, with proper hiking shoes and a better...

Perfect for families & friends seeking a mix of beach fun & light adventure, Bukit Keluang offers stunning sandy shores & rewarding cliffside trails with panoramic views of Laut China Selatan (South China Sea) & Pulau Ru / Pulau Perhentian.

There are two main trails to the top: Longer Trail begins opposite the public restrooms at Pantai Bukit Keluang (beachside entrance). Shorter Trail starts about 1km away, from beachside entrance (called Trail Head 2). Both paths are interconnected, so you can choose your adventure!

The trails aren't difficult. It is beginner-friendly & should be easily manageable even for first-time hikers 👍🏻 Just make sure to wear sturdy shoes as paths can be slippery especially on the rocky path during wet days & watch out for those beautifully woven buttress roots mats 😊

No matter who you are, as an avid nature lover or just a casual explorer, enjoy the hike as the views at the top will definitely sweep you away! 🤩

Arrive early on weekends / holidays – parking is free but...
