Bukit Keluang is one of the most popular hiking spots in Terengganu, Malaysia. Located near the town of Besut, this scenic hill attracts both locals and tourists with its beautiful sea views and peaceful surroundings.
The trail is relatively short and beginner-friendly, making it a great choice for those who want to try hiking for the first time or enjoy a light outdoor activity.
The hike usually takes about 20 to 30 minutes to reach the top, depending on your pace. Along the way, youâll be greeted with fresh air, lush greenery, and ocean breezes. The view from the top is stunning you can see the coastline, clear blue water, and nearby islands. Itâs especially beautiful during sunrise and sunset, when the sky is filled with soft colours.
At the base of the hill, there is a beach called Pantai Bukit Keluang. Itâs a great spot to relax after your hike. Youâll also find many stalls selling local food, drinks, and snacks, which is perfect if you need a quick bite.
However, it can get crowded during weekends or school holidays. Also, be careful if it rains, as the trail can become slippery.
Overall, Bukit Keluang is a great spot for nature lovers, photographers, and families looking for a...

I have to say without my husband; I wouldnât have completed the climb. He literally climbed in sandals without any fear. But itâs just that age catches up with us; we were all breathless in short 5mins just by taking the steep stairs. Clasp any ropes, tree barks, sticks, or rocks along the way; youâll need them! We took the starting point at the staircase close to the beach, the longest and most challenging, descended the shortest and fastest route at the back of the hill, and walked around 1km back to the beach area where we parked our car. The panoramic scenery at the peak makes the climbs worthy. You could see the south china sea straight into the horizon with a couple of islands dotting the landscape. And there are a few viewpoints along the way at the top.
The entire hike took us approx 75 minutes. This hike is the most unforgettable experience on day 5 of our self-drive road trip in east Malaysia. Would I come back again?! Sure, with proper hiking shoes and a better...
