Feridhoo — Local services in North Ari Atoll

Feridhoo (Dhivehi: ފެރިދޫ) is one of the inhabited islands of Ari Atoll, located on its eastern fringe. It belongs to the Alif Alif Atoll administrative division.

In centuries past, two male African slaves who had been bought by the kings on their Hajj trips to Mecca were formally released from slavery and were settled in this island. One of them was called Sangoru. He had been working for years at the palace in Malé before the ailing king released him in order to gain merit in the afterlife.

The freeing of slaves before the death of the owner was traditionally a common practice among the very high nobility in the Maldives. Now there are many families on Feridhoo and in neighboring Maalhos who can trace their descendency to those two African ancestors. one of the most famous families amongst this family is Abdhul Razzaq's family famous for boduberu.

Feridhoo island is located in Northern Ari Atoll (the locals call it Alif Alif), about 90 kilometers from Malé. Altrough there are only 300 people living in this island, there are few guesthouses, the restaurant, two cafes and a souvenir shop.

There are not so much tourists on the Feridhoo island, but local guesthouses are equipped with all necessary for good and calm repose. There are a private beach for tourists where it is allowed to swim and take sunbathing in bikini.

Great price (like 350$ per week :-) with HB in Sevinex Inn Hotel. Good place for 5-7days for relax, sunbathing and beautiful snorkeling. Just do not forget before you come: Local island = muslims (all in black), Muslims = no alcohol (no chance!), no pork, Here is Bikini beach - long enough, white sand but mostly snorkeling (swimming so so), be ready that they clean beach every morning but rubish come anytime (problem of islands everywhere in ocean :-( public boat from Manilla only 2$ but 7hours!! One way interesting. Back take speed boat for approx 60$ and 1h :-)...

Остров прекрасный, живописный. Тихий и девственный) Правда нужно поспешить с его посещением, чтобы застать его в таком виде, т.к. в текущее время идёт много строек гестов. Сейчас их может 6-7 на весь остров плюс минус. Очень крутой снорклинг, причем со всех сторон острова. Бикини бич обладает не глубоким, но лабиринто-подобным рифом, где зачастую чилят черепахи. Если повезёт, можно застать и скатов. Но до стенки плыть долго. Стенка близко на юго-восточном пляже (где гест ASAA VIEW) и на восточном (выход с лесополосы). Здесь можно увидеть акул и скатов орляков, особенно после 16 часов. Выбор "где покушать" не велик, не считая гестов на острове 3 кафе: Fun Relish - там ниразу не были; Cafe #6 - разнообразный выбор по меню, вкусная паста, (осьминога брать не советую, будете жевать 6 лет), осьминог и рыба гриль только вечером и по предварительному заказу (мол их выловить надо); Alihaa Cafe - местное бюджетное кафе, где, кстати вполне не плохо готовят, делают вкусные коктейли и фреши. Пообедать на двоих можно за 15-20 долларов спокойно. Берите спрей от комаров и прочей нечисти, по вечерам жрут. В общем по острову - high...
