Fomm ir-Riħ Bay

Magnificent location in a rather secluded corner of the island. The "mouth of the wind" is what the name implies. Facing straigh west, it's a gorgeous place for sunsets. From Bahrija, walk or drive down to the small parking lot. Have a map (offline or online) as it's possible to take the wrong turn and end up somewhere else. From the parking lot, you can walk to the white rock formation toward east and walk all the way along the hill and down to the rock beach. It's a rather steep but possible hike that requires nothing special but good shoes and balance. You can swim there as long as you bring rubber beach shoes, as the rocks might be (like everywhere in Malta) sharp and difficult to walk on. Do not plan to leave much later than sunset, because climbing back up in the dark would not be fun, and in the months of March, April and November, December... it gets cold quickly after the sun goes down. It is "possible" to reach Fomm ir Rih from Il-Gnejna passing around or by Ras il Pellegrin and up on the main road, then down through uncharted paths; I've done it, and I'm still here to write about it; but I'm not suggesting you should be as adventurous as I have been in the name of raw...

Ojo para venir hasta aquí, y CUIDADO cuando se llegue. Por el camino del norte (que se ve en la lista satélite) solo vas a poder acceder si eres el ricachón de la finca que tiene acceso directo a esta cala. Si no, pon el navegador GPS a la carretera que está en el sur, que cuenta con parking y "acceso" público. Este acceso desde el parking es terrible, casi sin camino, y en algunos puntos delicado. Una vez abajo, hay dos calas. La de la izquierda tiene cantos como cabezas, una nevera rota en la orilla, y cuando fuimos nosotros mucha suciedad. En la de la derecha solo hay suciedad y piedras pequeñas. El agua es transparente hasta que metes el pie, ya que se levanta el barro y no se ve un pimiento. Hay que tener MUCHO CUIDADO con ponerse cerca de la pared, ya que nosotros tuvimos la increíble suerte de que justo después de levantarnos tras una hora tumbados hubo un desprendimiento que nos habría caído en la cabeza. Muy bonito atardecer, pero se puede ver más tranquilo...

One can reach this place, by going to Bahrija and drive or walk down a recently resurfaced road. A breathtaking view meets you once you arrive at end of the road. Fomm ir-Rih is a nice bay below the cliffs. However one can go down to the bay from a narrow path from above the cliff, where one finds a house high above...
