Only gave 2 stars. That's because the views are amazing, as for the rest, not so good. We were only shown 2 types of rooms, 1 for 850 pesos and another for 650 pesos. We opted for the king bed for 850. The rooms do not have a t.v. , a/c, or a fan. It was pretty warm. The room had barely a half a roll of toilet paper in it and we never received house cleaning, fresh towels, or another roll of t.p. (weren't asked if we needed anything or able to find anyone to ask). The food was okay, not great. The wait staff really couldn't care less if we were there or not. Our Spanish is not that great, but they literally turned away when speaking with us. We asked for pan dulce, after someone else ordered it, and our waitress acted like she had no idea what we we taking about. We ordered tacos (after we saw someone else order them) and received taquitos. (Note, they have no menu here). All they were concerned about was that we were done, one meal we didn't even get silverware and when we walked up to ask for it they seemed annoyed. Trip advisor list this place as breakfast included. We found that false. I was under the impression that tours were given of the plantation, we were just pointed to the museum. We would not go back or recommend anyone to visit. What was all that money for? For the view, you can drive up and look at it. My wife and I agreed we would never stay again, the staff ruined it for us. We've been traveling throughout Mexico for almost a month and have never received such bad/rude...
Read moreLocation is amazing. My family and I arrived just as the rains started. The view from the cabins is mesmerizing to say the least. Rosario was helpful and nice to deal with. Her staff was courteous and nice to deal with. Food was fine. Traditional Oaxaca cuisine. The kitchen closed at 6:00 pm. It rained in the evening. From the cabin glass front entrance, I enjoyed the lighting from distant thunderstorms on the coast. Our cabin had a leaky ceiling in the restroom. The place is definitely rustic and the owners way of keeping order of reservations is chaotic. I reserved in January and paid a deposit through an OXXO "peso" gram. I called a day before we arrived from Oaxaca city. At first he told me over the phone that he had no record of our reservation. After giving him a lengthy explanation he then had recall. Once we got there he had us for only one night when it was supposed to be for two. The he charged us the wrong rate. Long story short we were fortunate that he had low ocupantes. If not we would have had no where to stay the second night. He gave no receipt for the stay. But he made sure that we signed hotel ledger. He could run the place more efficient. However I see him set in his ways. Great scenery, rich place with flora and fauna. If your passing through and they have vacancies you should have a pleasant experience. However if you reserve ahead of time of your stay just make sure you document all correspondence...
Read moreVisited this retreat today, glad we didn't stay there. The place is severely under construction for the rest of the year, at least, 10 guys with hammers will kill your chill. The staff is totally useless, and we speak fluent español, .... there is no taxi service, as the place is pretty far out of town, and walking a very steep mile back to town will test your cardiovascular health. the only way to get out of there, is to walk another mile downhill to the Huatulco road and catch a cab back up the mountain to Pluma Hidalgo. The manager is a gringophobic non-truth-leller, the chicas who pretend to work there are happy to see you leave, since we already knew about the "fried shoes in mole" we didn't dare have lunch there. Great location, great view, decent rooms. Overall, Finca Don Gabriel is just another Micky Zapoteco Mouse,...
