A really fantastic place! I've been to dozens of countries and visited hundreds of waterfalls all over the world, and this one likely makes it into the top 10 (especially when considering value for money and crowdedness)
While the main fall is really impressive, the entire area with various additional falls is nice and really peaceful during weekdays. While I saw some other visitors, I had many of the waterfalls entirely to myself for periods of time and could really enjoy the place! Entrance fee is absolutely fair at 80 MXP, and you see that the money is well invested. Infrastructure is good, everything you need is available. Walkways are well maintained, I didn't see any littering. Many signs try to educate the visitor, which I found charming.
I especially enjoyed that I could swim! The water was clear and clean (it's not very warm but manageable) and while I visited solo, I felt safe to keep my valuables just next to the swimming area (always in sight).
It's absolutely possible to visit this site as an independent individual traveler by public transport. There are regular collectivos that charge 50 MXP per way from Comitan (just ask around where exactly). The drive itself is also beautiful and hassle free (takes a bit more than an hour). From the drop-off point, it's a bit of a walk (about 30min to the entrance), but you could also take a tuk tuk. So basically, you can make the entire trip from Comitan for about 9 USD incl. transport roundtrip and...
Read moreThis place is majestic, celestial and seriously beautiful! Peace and calm will fill your soul in here. There are two entrances my favorite was centro ecoturistico Velo de novia (not chiflon) notice is centro ecoturistico Velo de novia is the best here is the reason. Is not to commercial, the zip line is 450 m and only $200 pesos they have clean cabins with no bugs yay! , friendly people and the best views of each of the 5 waterfall. Specially Velo de novia here the girls can take a picture as a bride for the veil (you won't get this view from chiflon) Be prepared for a long walk and be careful with the roads they are slippery in some areas. The restaurant is not great especially if you don't eat eggs haha but inexpensive 75 pesos a meal. There are no more places to eat inside, you will have to go to the entrance they have a great restaurant, has seafood for $125 pesos each. Eat garlic shrimp! . Bring enough water, snacks and bug spray, mosquitoes here are dangerous you could get zika, chinconkuya and denge. You could eat at the Pueblo but after 6 pm. The cabin is only $750 a night with two twin beds. Even at rain seasons this place is stunning. The best waterfall you could see in Mexico! Even better than husteca Potosina. You...
Read moreVery beautiful waterfalls (two minor and one huge fall)! Especially the upper part "Vela de Novia" is impressive! For outdoor and nature lovers the place doesn't offer any sense of "virgin nature" though.
Downstream are a lot of places where one can swim and refresh. The zip lines are expensive, but appear fun as they seem long and fast. Only negative point: A lot of tourist groups come at the same time from San Cristóbal de las Casas (leaving 7-9 a.m.), so that the place fills up a lot around 10-12 a.m. It is therefore recommendable to find a way to reach the waterfalls earlier in the morning to...
