Airport Overall
Due to a series of unfortunate events while visiting Veracruz, my husband and I were forced to arrive roughly 8 hours before boarding our flight. For the first portion of our wait we sat down in a secluded area where we enjoyed the air conditioning. However, the airport seemed to have a lack of consistency through out our wait. There were light outages periodically, causing the wifi to crash frequently and of course the AC. Note that the wifi provided by the airport is extremely poor as it is and due to the airports being relatively of small size, along with it being basically empty, you’d assume the wifi to be strong. If anyone who has visited Veracruz, they can confirm that the heat here can be quite unbearable and the AC is a must. For this AC reason, along with having to wait for an extended period of time on our flight, we decided to pay for the day pass at the Caral VIP Lounge.
Caral VIP Lounge
It turns out that the AC in the Caral VIP lounge was also out due to the light shortages. Which we hoped it would operate on its own power line but of course it wasn’t but we didn’t mind considering that we were only hoping and not expecting. Nonetheless we purchased the day pass ( four hours) which advertises free snacks, drinks, and certain alcoholic beverages. We thought it was a great deal and would be a perfect way to spend our remaining time at the airport. I didn’t really order much but my husband ordered roughly 4 beers over the span of the four hours and maybe 2-3 mini water bottles. The service was great and I communicated to my husband that I appreciated the great service provided by the young lady and that we would tip her generously for her efforts.
Turns out that she tried stealing our time by 40 minutes..
We spent 875 pesos which is ~51 dollars for the both in which the 40 minutes would roughly accumulate to 148 pesos stolen in time.
When the young woman came to notify us that our time “has expired” we quickly knew something was off. We strategically planned out our time to align with a certain time frame. Not to mention we kept the receipt verifying the time stamped of when we checked in. We then shared this information with her in which she vaguely glanced over it and I asked her to verbally confirm the time stamp indeed were correct. She confirmed but remained emotionless and didn’t offer an apology for the “confusion” and just walked away. In the case that she wasn’t wrong , this means that she had to physically check the expiring time stamp before walking over to us. This also means that she deliberately knew what she was trying to achieve. Stealing our time/money but was unsuccessful. The fact that she didn’t offer an apology also confirms that she did not make a human error of mixing up the time.
Regardless of it being only 148 pesos, it is still theft. Perhaps additional training is needed at this VIP Lounge. KEEP...
Read moreWORST AIRPORT EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE! I feel cheated and robbed. On my way home from Mexico, airport security confiscated two small, apple-shaped mosaic lamps from my carry-on because they were “too heavy.” Each couldn't have weighed more than 5 pounds. This was my third trip to Mexico, and I have never heard of nor experienced this absurd rule before. My friend had a smaller dolphin-shaped mosaic decoration that was also confiscated, while another mosaic lamp that was identical to mine was let through. (I'm glad hers wasn't confiscated, but this obviously shows blatant inconsistency.) There wasn't any weight limit for the carry-ons, and my carry-on suitcase was still overall very light because, other than these two souvenirs, it only held clothes. We were given the option to check-in the suitcase for $30. One friend rushed back to do this, only to find the airline had already closed check-in more than half an hour before boarding. We also tried to call the friend who had dropped us off at the airport to see if we could give her the souvenirs that would otherwise be confiscated, but the internet was down and we were unable to contact her. We realized that this process was taking way too much time, and we were risking being late for our flight. We had to take the loss and literally run to get on the plane. What we expected to be a smooth and routine pass through airport security resulted in the loss of over $50 worth of souvenirs pieces that we had picked out carefully and carried safely throughout our trip. Talking to friends later, we're speculating that we were straight-up robbed under the guise of “security.” These are not items that would normally be confiscated, and there was nothing dangerous about them. I have never left an airport feeling so violated, frustrated,...
