Read moreThis is the highest mountain in Central Mongolia and is worth visiting. If you wish to climb it bring your ice ax and crampons and some work clothing. The slopes are not steep but there are many crevasses in the glacier. We did not climb the mountain but did climb up to the cirque lake. This is not a difficult hike but the ground is very marshy and covered by a large number of rocks and boulders. It is about a 4 hour round trip to the sacred lake at the base of the mountain.
This location is unique as mountains that reach up to the snow lime are very rare in this part of Mongolia. There are locations to camp near the park entrance and even a gazebo with picnic tables for cooking.
If there during the monsoon season (August) be sure to bring a car that can cross a river. When we camped there it was not raining but after hiking to the lake and sleeping over night the river had risen quite allot. What had been an easy crossing had turned into a river and the crossing was deep and the river had risen by at least a meter overnight. We were able to cross because our vehicle was four wheel drive with a snorkel. The water went up to the windows but we made it out. Otherwise we would have had to Waite a few days for the water to recede. This mountain is well worth visiting and impressive. It is also a worth while climb for those who are well prepared for the glacier and height. Next time I wish to...
