We had a long layover in Casablanca and decided to make use of it with a food tour. The administrator of Taste of Casablanca was very easy to work with and very accommodating.
Our guide Hasnaa was full of fun facts about Morocco.
Our first food stop was a nearly 100 year old bakery called Pâtisserie Habous. Almond was the main ingredient in virtually everything and it was so good! So many to choose from and priced very well.
After this we walked through several markets with more types of olives and spices than one could imagine! All this set the atmosphere with a unique scent that we will not forget!
We stopped at a juice vendor, for some fresh squeezed orange juice.
Than we were lured into the next area by the smell of grilled meats. It was like a cartoon, the smoke came and tapped us on the shoulder and enticed us to come closer... suddenly we were surrounded by butchers and grills! There were freshly butchered goats, cows and camels... yes camel!! We could not believe our eyes! We asked our guide Hasnaa what the delicious smell was, she told us it was grilled camel, so she ordered some to be freshly grounded and seasoned and then we brought it about 15 meters (50 feet) away to a restaurant where you can BYOM, bring your own meat! They grilled it up along with some tomatoes and onions, fresh bread, olives, and some crudités. And fresh mint tea!
The meal was amazing! This was the best ground meat we had ever tasted!
Hasnaa also showed us some landmarks and historical sites. And our driver was safe and professional.
We totally recommend this experience to anyone who is looking for a unique way to see and taste Casablanca.
Thanks again Hasnaa!

Read moreWe booked the Casablanca food tour and we could not have been happier. Our time with Hasnaa turned out to be the highlight of our trip to Casablanca. She started us out at a café with an assortment of breads and spreads. She took the time to explain every item and also gave us an insight into the history of Morocco and it’s people. Every bite was just as good as the last. Next, we went on a tour of a Souk and tasted amazing deserts and my personal favorite, bisteeya. The most amazing part came next when Hasnaa took us deep into the local market and showed us an amazing place where food and items are sold and eaten. The trip wouldn’t have been possible without her incredible insights and willingness to explain every small detail. He interaction with the vendors and community was very important to the experience and provided us a “local” taste of the market. Finally, she selected various meats from a butcher and they were prepared for us at the Port Said Market.
Camel is delicious!
Hasnaa is an experienced and congenial guide who made us very happy for making the trip to Casablanca. We would recommend her without reservation as a guide for a longer trip as well and we will certainty reach out to her on our next trip to Casablanca for even more of her amazing personality and...
Read moreWe did a market tour and cous cous cooking class with Hayyat. The experience was just amazing. Hayyat picked us up at the hotel and drove us to the market, where we had breakfast in a little street corner stall with different kinds of Moroccan pancakes and a little soup. After we had a tour of the market where we picked up a few ingredients for the cous cous we were about to cook and got a really nice overview about what kind of special foods are popular in Morocco. Hayyat was really knowledgable about the market and chatted up the vendors so we could try a few things. We asked her if she could recommend a good place to buy spices and she drove us to a second place which was focused on selling products of local communities. Perfect for the spices we wanted to take home. After this we went to her home and got into cooking the cous cous. It was truly an involving experience in which we got to make fried Moroccan dumplings and of course the cous cous itself. Being in an actual home just added to the experience. For lunch the whole family joined us and we ate together. Being completely stuffed Hayyat offered us ice cream and cookies anyway which of course we had got to try. All in all that is how a food tour and cooking class is supposed to work....
