We enjoyed our visit. We parked where indicated and accepted the service of a guide. Our guide, Siad, spoke English. Without him we wouldn't have found much. We visited the mausoleum door, the library of ancient books, a bread maker, the ksars and kasbahs of Berbers and if Arabs, saw an underground Kasbah, visited the pottery making, and pottery sales, a nomads shop and saw the cemetary. All of this with explanations about the workings and the people. The cafe at the end was good too.

A beautiful Madrasa and Library which is still functional and in use. The highlight is the Library room with manuscripts and books dating back 1000 years. The 1000 year old Quran might be what most people come to see, but I loved the wildlife encyclopedia and the early map of the solar system as it was understood half a millennium ago.

Bellissima sorpresa.

The shrine here is interesting for any religious scholar to see and watch how the town has evolved since it's old days as a stop on the hajj route. For a detailed history I'd suggest listening to the podcast: 20 [ENG/DARIJA] “I WOULDN’T MIND” / SUFI LODGES AND THE HAJJ

Unfortunately it is now a significant tourist stop so you have to politely say no to a few people who want to lead you around. Though there was a very nice pottery store owner who let us leave our bags without...
