Đây là bức tượng Phật nằm (ngả tượng phật) lớn nhất tại Myanmar và lớn thứ hai trên thế giới sau bức tượng nằm dài 74 m ở Dawei (Tavoy). Phật ngả Shwethalyaung Buddha này có chiều dài 55m và cao 16m, vô cùng thu hút du khách ghé thăm.Theo truyền thuyết, tượng Phật tuyệt đẹp này được xây dựng vào thế kỷ thứ 10 dưới thời vua Môn Mgadeikpa. Sau khi Bago bị chiến tranh tàn phá vào năm 1757, người ta không còn thấy sự xuất hiện của pho tượng Phật khổng lồ Shwethalyaung cho đến năm 1881 khi một nhà thầu đã khai quật được nó trong khi xây dựng tuyến đường sắt Yangon – Bago.
