We did not go there at sunrise but hear was bearable (climb start around 1145, reached the top at around 1230-ish). Plenty of stops in between. Bring lots of water.

Do not follow google maps. If you do, however, just we aware that a few meters where the location is in google maps there is a sign that should direct you to a dirt road to Taung Wine Pagoda. We discovered that sign by accident and followed it, along with guidance from some locals who told us basically to follow the road.

Worth the sweat. But plenty of plastic trash. There are bins but people just are lazy. We picked a lot along the way and disposed of these...

Must visit. One of my favorites in the country. But the Google direction is wrong! It takes u to the south side where there is no access to the entrance via some narrow roads. The correct road to the mountain base where there is also a car park is on the north side. Road condition from Hpa An is new and good. The climb to the top however is quite tiring and not recommended for the elderly. Be careful of black ants where u leave shoes near the top. The view is breathtaking...so...

Lovely for sunrise BUT Google Maps guides you to the middle of nowhere south the mountain... we missed the sunrise the first day which is a pitty if you have limited time during travels.

I attached a map showing the road. Navigate to this location: (16.9086080, 97.7127810) and just follow the street which leads you directly to the monastery. At the end of the Street you‘ll find the stairs leading you in 20-30min to the top!...
