We came as a day visit and were very pleasantly surprised. I din't have many expectations other than some more rocks but actually the place is stunning. We spent a good 2 hours driving around and climbing the rocks. There weren't many people around either which was nice.
Some info: Don't follow the google directions. To get in, you actually need to head to "Spitzkoppe Community Restcamp" as labelled on google (on the D1925). There you can check in and enter. The map you get given of the site shows a route going all the way around. What is not clear however is that in the south west corner there is a manned "gate" which you have to go through in order to continue the journey all the way around. The problem is that there is also marked on the map that the south west gate entrance is permanently closed, this is true but the manned gate is different to this. We saw a few cars driving around confused by this. That being said, once you go through this manned gate you are then outside the park. It's still a nice drive around but you no longer get access to the rocks.
The camp sites looked quite cool, so although we didn't try it, I would look into...
Read moreBy far one of my favourite camping spots ever. There is literally no wind, the tranquility of the surroundings are unique and the views are spectacular. Secluded landscape and a highlight from Namibia for sure.
Fee logistics to keep in mind: the camping spots are not reserved so are attributed on a first come first serve basis if you see a table and/or chairs left around itâs been taken already and the campers are browsing around there are more camping spots than the map shows. There are some listed based on numbers but there are many more secluded areas in between things around the private north gate to the lodges there are amazing local guides waiting to take you on the mountain. Canât hike without official guide; our guides Ingrid and Jennifer were absolutely lovely and a joy to hike with!
Couldnât recommend this place enough if youâre up for a hike and a great...
Read moreSpitzkoppe was easily one of the most awe-inspiring places I visited in Namibia. Standing among its massive granite peaks, I was completely taken aback by how incredible the landscape is.
The sunset and sunrise here are something else â make sure you donât miss either. The way the rocks shift through deep, fiery shades of orange is mesmerising. Watching the light change and transform the scenery felt surreal. It reminded me of Uluru in Australia, but Spitzkoppe felt very unique in its own way.
The night sky here is also just as amazing. With no light pollution, the stars are brighter than Iâve ever seen, and staying up late to spot the Milky Way was unforgettable.
Spitzkoppe isnât just a place you visit; itâs an experience you carry with you. If youâre in Namibia,...
