Here and the surround you get a glimpse of truly mesmerising aspects of human history, to see how we drew and represented our lives is fascinating. Some say items are thousands of years old, others say tens of thousands of years old.

Stunning to see and marvel at, the images here are not exact items in this area, we went through here, but there is nothing else google wants to accept as this space. Always wonder which of the people drew these was it their Michelangelo's or was it their Love Islands contests? Was it wisest shamans, or was this an abandoned primary school?

We were lucky that our tour guide had a bit of the conspiracy about him and kept talking about the cover up of why these paintings are not more well known or renowned. Might have been all codswallop, but he looked the part, full on crocodile Dundee (i mean shorts and hat really) but he kept our group mesmerised for hours with tales.

Brilliant experience very lucky to...

Amazing petroglyphs but an extremely poor guided experience. This matters when you cannot go without a guide. Our guide was clearly disinterested and gave us objectively false information compared to the resources in the museum itself. She told us that the animal carvings were simply “animals that the people saw around and felt like writing down” and that strange circular glyphs were just “nearby water holes” which seemed oddly simple for such labor-intensive carvings.

When we visited the small museum by reception we read completely different interpretations (the glyphs were most likely tied to shamanist rituals and the circular glyphs were likely eyes).

It’s a real shame since this one of the most interesting spots in the entire country, but poor guides can bring down the...

What an amazing place of heritage. The rock etchings are very uncommon, and here at Twyfelfontein they are in abundance. As South Africans, we paid a little less than the N$250pp charged for international travellers, but even at that price it would have been worth it. Our guide was most informative and the tour would not have been the same without him. The visitor centre has a lot of info, but they could perhaps improve their kiosk offering a little. They were however quite happy for us to enjoy our picnic there. Just as a note: they only accept cash and I have no idea where one would find the closest ATM. I can imagine the disappointment driving all the way only to be denied access with a valid but useless...

Superb visit to do ! When you think how old these carvings are (over 7000 years old), you feel so young again ! 😂😅
