UGC De Pan — Local services in De Bilt

We played here as group yesterday (11 Jul 22) and De Pan is BY FAR the most welcoming to guest players of all the 'Oude negen' courses we've visited so far. Not only was it the goodie bags on arrival, it was also the little touches from the caddiemaster and the course manager chatting to us on the first tee (and again on the 9th green), that made us feel like part of the club - even if it was only for the day.

The quality of the course speaks for itself, it's so calm and peaceful that you truly feel like there is nothing else around you. Which can be a good and a bad thing as it is SO QUIET sometimes that not only can you hear yourself think but also the groups in front and behind you, which wasn't a problem for us but others may find distracting.

My one and only criticism would be that the bar staff seemed a little unprepared for dealing with a group of 12 at once and we would have welcomed service on the terrace but apart from that they were perfectly pleasant to deal with.

Played this classic H.S. Colt design in 2012 and still remember it so well. There is so much variety in the holes and the layout makes the most of the terrain. The short par fours 7th, 10th and 17th are wonderful, tempting you to be agressive. The long par fours are equally as good, with the 6th being one of the best. The quality doesn't stop there, as the par threes and fives are also noteworthy, especially the 8th, 15th and 12th. This is a course I would be glad to play for the rest of my life. Something very special about this course. It's an effortless walk through nature that also happens to be one of the best 18 holes of golf in the world. Even with the very short connecting walks, each hole feels like it's on its own and they're all so peaceful. The facilities are traditional and simple with a stunning driving range. Members were very welcoming and the staff were unbelievably helpful allowing us to play on an alternate day after the course was closed on the day of our original booking.
