Written at Nov 8th in English for direct communication.

First impression of Schiphol : 3 hours of unnecessary time wasting and unprofessionalism.

From Landing to the Border control, it took more than three hours.

The group of people (more than 150 people I assumed) waited about 2.5-3h depending on their luck, condition and promptness.

Waiting line for EU-Citizens might have been less terrible, however, Non-EU citizens were the ones who waited longer duration.

  1. We were not given explanation why there is a long que. When someone asked saying โ€œWe have a childrenโ€ or โ€œWhy is there such a long queโ€ the staff [tall and young, male, White) said if you have a problem, come in front, we can have a word downstairs in private(in a grumpy manner).]

  2. There were many who do not abide by the rules.

I will not name the nationalities, however when there was a long queue, some of the groups tried to cut in the queue. At first, it seemed understaffed so no one cared. It started to get a bit more serious.

When a bunch of Indian groups cut the line, some people stopped and tried to call the assistance. At first no one seemed to care. However, after waiting for 2hours after landing at that point, the crowd started to complain and young lady and gentleman from the airport came in and grabbed them out to the back.

  1. Airport was not ready for this kind of hectic situation. 3-1) Some staffs were kind but in general short-staffed therefore, mandating and coercive. 3-2) Our bags were just taken out and there was no sign, no direction. When we finally got to the baggage area after THREE hours, no apology and sign was provided. Bags were just abandoned without security nor the attention. 3-3) Elderly and handicapped people should really be prioritized. When European people with children were taken care of, Non-European people with children did not seem to be tendered at all. I do understand this is due to the border control and security. I heard some complains back then, that their disability in their feet was ignored. As the staff said โ€œEveryone is waiting , No Exception.โ€

I wish there were some more formal gestures taking care of the people in need.

Even though I felt terrible after the airportโ€™s service, I appreciate the comment.(though it just seems like...

We had a pretty awful experience leaving Schipol at the end of our trip. We arrived at the airport 3 hours early for our international flight as advised. Never have we ever had any issues with arriving that early and still cutting it close to boarding time. The lines towards security were winding all through the 3rd floor and it was like herding cattle... The line stretched even just to go up the escalator to get to the floor with the security section. Once we got close to the security machines, turns out two lines converged into one, so even more people were crammed into the same line than expected. Going through the security machines itself was a breeze and took less than 5 minutes. Then as you can imagine, all of us that just went through security had to wait in an equally long and poorly organized line for passport control. The lines were not organized at all by type of passport and people were cutting lines and butting others all throughout the process. Staff were doing nothing to make it more seamless and people were just getting more and more frustrated. Again, once it was our turn, the passport control process was quick. All in all, getting through security and passport control took close to 2 HOURS! Once we made it through we grabbed coffee and breakfast then basically had to run to our gate as it was far away and boarding soon. Once we got to our gate, they were beginning boarding in the next 20mins. We had time to quickly eat and use the bathroom and to our surprise, the bathroom (gate D53) didn't have any water refill stations. We didn't have time to go looking for anything since the next facilities were too far away and we were boarding shortly.

Overall this was our worst international airport experience, and yes we have traveled to various countries and through different international airports. It felt so poorly organized and made the whole process so stressful. You'd think that arriving 3 hours in advance would give you plenty of time to get through security, have some time to relax and maybe even do a little duty free shopping... We barely had time to go pee and eat food. And this whole process just exposes the worst of humanity as we watched people get angry, fight with each other, try to cheat the system and act like children. It did not make for a good travel home as we were stressed and exhausted standing in line for hours before we even began our...

โ˜ ๏ธ Public health hazard - an airport with barely any seating options, but mice ๐Ÿ€ running around freely. Imagine people who get stranded overnight and sleep or sit on the floor, especially families with kids.

Tonight, 15 flights got cancelled due to technical issues. All airline employees disappeared within minutes, leaving travellers on their own to figure out what to do at 1 am at night. No streamlined processes, nobody to talk to (not even on airline hotlines). Nobody seemed to care.

There are no excuses for this. I experienced better service, quality, responsibility and customer care in many countries with a fraction of Netherlands GDP or development status.

The fact that mice are roaming around and according to other reviews, it hasnt been addressed for a long time, is mindblowing. I experienced breathing problems in one area of the airport. Imagine kids playing there.

Why does this matter, you might ask?

Mice in airports or any public spaces can pose significant public health hazards due to the range of diseases they can carry and transmit to humans. These diseases include Hantavirus, Lassa Fever, Leptospirosis, Lymphocytic Choriomeningitis (LCM), Monkeypox, Salmonella, and Tularemia.

Each of these diseases has varying symptoms and severities, from mild flu-like symptoms to severe respiratory, kidney, and liver issues, and even death in some cases .

Hantavirus: Transmitted through inhalation of airborne particles from rodent urine, droppings, or saliva, leading to Hantavirus Pulmonary Syndrome (HPS), which can be fatal. Symptoms start with fatigue, fever, and muscle aches, escalating to severe coughing and respiratory distress .

Lymphocytic Choriomeningitis (LCM): Caused by a virus carried by house mice, transmitted through direct contact with infected rodent waste. It can lead to neurological diseases such as meningitis, encephalitis, or meningoencephalitis, with potential for permanent neurological damage .

Leptospirosis: This bacterial infection can lead to kidney damage and liver failure if untreated, spread through contact with water tainted by rodent urine .

Salmonellosis: Often contracted through contact with rodent feces in food or on food preparation surfaces, causing stomach upset .

The food court areas and closed kitchens are openly accessible in the halls at night and it would be quite a stretch to believe that the mice would not...
