Harderwold Villa Resort — Local services in Zeewolde

We stayed in this villa for 6 nights as a group of eight (4 adults, 2 teenagers, and 2 kids). Overall, the villa has many positives: the location is excellent, the resort is beautiful and well-maintained, and the surroundings are great for running and outdoor activities. The kitchen is modern and very well equipped, the beds are comfortable, and the garden and facilities are new and in great condition.

However, there were also several issues that affected our stay. During the first two days, the weather was very hot, and except for two upstairs bedrooms, there was no air conditioning in the villa. The living room and children’s rooms became uncomfortably warm, which was disappointing given that the listing mentioned air conditioning.

A much more serious problem arose on the second day, when we began to notice a gas smell in the living room. It worsened day by day despite our attempts to air out the house and even after shutting off the gas valve for the heating system. On the last night, the smell became so strong that we were genuinely concerned for our children’s safety. We contacted the emergency number provided by the villa, but surprisingly, they told us to call the local fire department ourselves rather than sending maintenance or handling it directly. This felt unreasonable and stressful, especially for guests in a foreign country.

Eventually, the fire department arrived and confirmed there was a gas leak from an external valve that had entered the house through a ventilation opening. They shut off the valve, and the smell went away, but by that point, everyone had been woken up and evacuated in the middle of the night. This incident completely disrupted our last night and the following day, as we had to leave early for a planned trip to Efteling.

We emailed the property management about this, but have not received any response to date, which is unfortunate.

In summary, while the villa and resort have a lot of potential and we enjoyed many aspects of our stay, the lack of proper air conditioning and, more importantly, the way the gas leak situation was handled, left us with mixed feelings. Wir sind derzeit in einem Haus der Agentur in den Niederlanden, im Harderwold Villa Resort. Das Haus und der Garten sind wirklich sehr schön, ABER: der Pflegezustand und die Ausstattung lassen sehr zu wünschen übrig! Wenn ein Haus für 10 Personen vermietet wird, sollte auch entsprechende Anzahl von Tellern und Bestecke, sowie Sitzgelegenheiten im Außenbereich zur Verfügung stehen ! Auch andere Küchenutensilien, wie Töpfe und Schlüsseln sind für die Personenanzahl nicht ausreichend und mussten von uns gekauft werden. Die Terrasse und die Außenfassade sind stark von Spinnweben umgarnt. Wir hätten ja gerne "sauber gemacht", aber den dafür notwendigen Besen (den wir auch zur Reinigung vor der Abreise dringend brauchen, da "fegen" gegen Androhung von Zusatzkosten vorgeschrieben ist) haben wir erst nach durchsuchen des Anwesens in dem Behälter des Wirlpools gefunden. Ein Sofa auf dem Balkon des Hauses ist stark verschimmelt und erweckt Ekelgefühle. Leider waren auch die zwei Sonnenschirme aus der Hausbeschreibung nicht vorhanden, so dass wir den Außenbereich bei den hochsommerlichen Temperaturen nur sehr eingeschränkt nutzen konnten. Es gibt zahlreiche Beleuchtungen im Außenbereich, die größtenteils jedoch nicht funktionieren. Das Gleiche gilt für die Außensteckdosen und Beleuchtungen im Haus. Als dann auch noch der Eigentümer des Nachbarhauses meinte, früh morgens, in der Hochsaison, sein Dach säubern lassen zu müssen (es war nicht wirklich dringend notwendig), war die Urlaubsstimmung durch den Lärm und das Nasswerden unseren Sitzbereiches so ziemlich auf dem Nullpunkt. Fazit: Schönes Haus, geschmackvoll eingerichtet. Pflegezustand leider mangelhaft. Wir würden das Haus, in diesem Zustand und zu diesem Preis nicht mehr buchen und können es auch nicht empfehlen 😒. Die Abwicklung der Buchung über die Agentur Belvilla verlief problemlos. Allerdings kann man doch erwarten, daß eine Agentur, die mit "luxusimmobilien" wirbt, sich von dem Zustand regelmäßig überzeugt. Auch den Hausmeister den Anwesens möchte ich lobend erwähnen. Complete disappointment and a scam! The listing said 2 bedrooms, 4 beds, and 2 bathrooms. The exterior of a motorhome was shown in the photos, giving the impression that we would stay inside it. Based on this, we booked it for 5 people (3 adults, 2 children). We came all the way from Germany, traveling hundreds of kilometers and spending a lot on fuel, time, and effort for this stay. But when we arrived, we were told we had only rented a pitch — not the motorhome itself! This is clearly deceptive and intentional. It ruined our vacation. Don’t fall for this!
