Monkey Creek is not a place where you can see monkeys like your name. Here, the flowing water is where you can drink glaciers. The Monkey Creek, located in the Hollyford Valley. Flowing water is pure water from glaciers, and you can taste the freshness of ice for yourself. The name Monkey Creek comes from William Henry Homer's dog (Monkey Creek). Homer is a European who worked as a researcher in the Fiordland area in the 1800s, and he himself was named after Homer's saddle and, of course, Homer Tunnel, which passed under the saddle. You can also see the Homer Tunnel directly on your way to the Milford Sound.

The famous animal in this area is a wild parrot called Kiah. Kia is a parrot living in New Zealand and is the only living parrot in the mountains.

It used to be a large number, but it was widely hunted and now threatened by extinction during British colonization as it was perceived to be damaging to livestock.

Her body color is cloudy yellow, her lower wing is red, They live in mountains in the summer, but they come down to lowlands in the winter. They eat the carcasses of insects, plant fruits, sheep and deer as omnivores.

It is also known to attack small sheep or sick sheep.

When you go by car, these guys tend to peck at the...

If your pressed for time you could skip some of the prior spots like Eglinton Valley and Mirror Lakes. But this is where the splendour of Milford Sound really starts, so you should absolutely stop here. A great place to stop and really soak up the view.

I actually visited in October 2021 - I just decided to add a review now. Without the international tourists, it was blissfully quiet, which made it even better. I assume that it's horribly...

If you could stop at only 1 spot on your way to/fro Milford sound, this would be in.

Cross the road and get into the creek/stream bed for an awesome photo towards the Milford sound end.

Drivers do watch out for distracted folks in the parking area and also watch out for other vehicles pulling into the area. Some drivers can be pretty reckless or just distracted...

Beautiful scenic spot on the long drive to Milford Sound. The crystal clear creek and misty mountains were absolutely mesmerizing. You might have a chance to spot kea here as well. Many suggest taking a drink from the stream, though as a medical professional I would personally suggest caution. Definitely worth a stop here on your way from Te Anau to Milford Sound.

This is another stop where bus operators halt. Here the roads are bit wider and hence there are few spaces available for parking. There are high chances of spotting mountain keas here. Snow capped mountains & a running stream make it beautiful. They say the water flowing here is so pure that one can refill the drinking bottles.
